Niño Jesús University Children’s Hospital is a specialized health center dedicated exclusively, since its foundation, to pediatric pathology.

It aims to offer the best service to its young patients by seeking to enhance research and teaching activities and to keep abreast of scientific progress to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of care.

Cradle of the birth of the pediatric specialty in Spain, it has been a national pediatric health center of reference since its founding in 1877. To date, it has about 200 beds that include all pediatric medical specialties.

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology is recognized as a national referral center (CSUR) and receives patients from all over the country. One of the outstanding units is Neuro-Orthopedics, with an experience of more than 15 years as pioneers in the conservative and surgical management of orthopedic disorders of the child with cerebral palsy (CP). The clinical team is experienced in performing complex surgeries to correct severe walking disorders (SEMLS), performing more than 25 such procedures per year.

Another interesting department in the management of the child with CP is the physiotherapy department, which provides care for both inpatients and outpatients, also being a referral for post-operative recovery after SEMLS.

Pursuing cutting edge treatments in cerebral palsy, exoskeletons, such as ATLAS 2030, are commonly used after minimally invasive orthopedic surgeries.

Research projects are conducted using the gait lab for acquiring quantitative outcome measurement of different spasticity therapies.

At the end of 2024 an international meeting about “innovation and controversies in cerebral palsy” was held in the Hospital. Thanks to the multidisciplinary approach of the program and being spread on the internet, the meeting was a great success.

This is how the center updates the tradition of being a reference not only for our country but also for portugal and south america.

The change

In this context, about 18 years ago The Laboratory of Movement Analysis (LAM) was born and has become a national reference in the evaluation of movement disorders in pediatrics.

The laboratory’s multidisciplinary staff consists of highly qualified personnel trained in the use of this technology, including physical therapists and specialists in the areas of orthopedics and neuro-orthopedics.

With nearly 18 years of experience, and more than 600 gait studies conducted each year in children with movement disorders (primarily cerebral palsy), the clinical staff is highly specialized in the clinical management of movement alterations in children with cerebral palsy and conducts research on disorders of the musculoskeletal system in childhood.

Thanks to the BTS lab, the hospital’s physicians and physical therapists can conduct progressive monitoring of all orthopedic pathologies in patients with cerebral palsy in order to more accurately plan surgical and rehabilitation treatments.

We have chosen BTS because…

The pediatric movement analysis laboratory is a key tool for the evaluation and treatment of gait disorders in children.

With BTS GAITLAB it is possible to capture and analyze human movement, to provide a detailed and quantitative view of gait deviations, facilitating more accurate diagnoses and aiding treatment planning.
