Does focal mechanical stimulation of the lower limb muscles improve postural control and sit to stand movement in elderly?

The study investigates whether a new protocol using focal mechanical muscle vibration can improve balance and stability in the elderly. Patients with postural disequilibrium and negative vestibular tests received focal muscle vibration on the quadriceps. They were evaluated before, one week, and one-month post-therapy using postural stabilometric examinations and inertial sensor. The study demonstrated that the new protocol significantly enhances balance, postural stability, and mobility, as evidenced by improvements in stabilometric measures and the Timed Up and Go test.
